Bali, 3 November 2025 – A total of 203 students from the Information and Public Relations Study Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) conducted a five-day Field Work Lecture (KKL) in Bali Province, from November 3–7. The program was designed to bridge theory and practice, providing in-depth understanding of the work dynamics within government agencies and public institutions focused on tourism, communication, information, archiving, and public services.
During this intensive activity, the student group was accompanied by a team of supervising lecturers: Yofiendi Indah Indainanto, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom, Irene Syebatia Bumi, M.I.Kom, Adelinta Pristia Defi, M.I.Kom, Ni Putu Eka Budi Pradnya Wulandari Dewi, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom, and Deony Dewanggi Mulyono, M.I.Kom.
The team of lecturers ensured the KKL served as a vital means to broaden students’ perspectives and strengthen their professional competence before entering the workforce. The students visited seven strategic institutions in Bali.
Exploring Tourism Strategy and Public Digitalization
The first visit focused on the Bali Provincial Tourism Office. Here, students received a comprehensive presentation on sustainable tourism development strategies, destination management, and efforts to recover the tourism sector post-COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion highlighted Bali’s efforts to maintain its global appeal while preserving culture and the environment.
The journey continued to the Bali Provincial Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo). Students gained crucial insights into public communication management for regional government, the digital transformation process, and effective strategies for technology-based information dissemination. The discussion focused on how technology can enhance transparency and the quality of public services.
Understanding Vital Infrastructure and Media Role
The infrastructure sector was the next agenda, with a visit to PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) Bali. Students had the opportunity to learn about the electricity distribution system, network management, and PLN’s commitment to providing reliable and environmentally friendly energy. This presentation provided an overview of the complexities of managing electricity in an archipelago that serves as an international tourism hub.

In addition, students also visited Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Denpasar to observe the broadcasting production process and radio content management and understand the crucial role of broadcast media in conveying information and preserving local culture.
Focus on Service, Literacy, and Archiving
The final three institutions completed the students’ understanding of public service and information governance.
At the Bali Provincial Library, the material received focused on modern library management, collection digitalization, and strategies for improving community literacy. Students witnessed the library’s shift in role to become an inclusive digital service center.
Subsequently, a visit to the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia Representative Office for Bali provided insight into the mechanisms for monitoring public services and handling public complaints. The material emphasized the importance of accountability of government institutions in ensuring quality service.
The series of activities concluded at the Bali Provincial Archives and Library Service, where students learned about regional archive management systems, preservation of historical documents, and the use of modern technology in archival governance. Archives were introduced as a vital source of information for development planning.
Enhancing Networks and Competencies
One of the supervising lecturers, Yofiendi Indah Indainanto, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., stated that the KKL is an essential tool for students to implement theories learned in the classroom into real-world work contexts.
“This visit provides direct experience on the application of Information and Public Relations knowledge in strategic sectors such as tourism and government communication, as well as public service,” he said.
The KKL program is expected not only to broaden horizons but also to strengthen professional networking and significantly enhance students’ competencies in their field. Diponegoro University expressed high appreciation to all institutions in Bali that provided full support, opportunities, and warm welcomes throughout the activity.
