UNDIP Vocational School Lecturer Urges Strengthening Post-Disaster Health and Psychosocial Services in Sumatra

SEMARANG — The Disaster–Emergency and Disaster Response Team (D-DART) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) once again demonstrated its humanitarian commitment by deploying Team IV for Emergency Response to Floods and Landslides in West Sumatra to Agam Regency from 24 to 28 December 2025.

A total of 16 volunteers were involved in the mission, comprising doctors, nurses from Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND), medical and nursing students, lecturer field coordinators, and a public relations team. The team provided healthcare services, psychosocial support, and the distribution of humanitarian aid to disaster survivors.

The intervention targeted several severely affected areas, including Koto Alam, Kayu Pasak, Malalak, Maninjau, and Palembayan. All activities were carried out in close coordination with the Agam Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), local community health centers, village governments, and volunteer posts.

Healthcare services included general medical check-ups, free medication, home visits for residents with limited mobility, and referrals to healthcare facilities. Common health issues identified among residents included acute respiratory infections, digestive disorders, skin diseases, hypertension, and post-disaster psychological distress.

In addition to medical services, the team provided psychosocial assistance through play therapy and art therapy for children, as well as psychospiritual and mindfulness-based approaches for adults. Jazimatul Husna, S.IP., M.IP., a lecturer in the Information and Public Relations Study Program at UNDIP Vocational School, emphasized that post-disaster recovery must address both physical and mental well-being.

“Disasters do not only cause physical damage but also leave psychological scars. Therefore, healthcare services must go hand in hand with psychosocial support to ensure holistic community recovery,” she stated.

Team IV also distributed logistical aid, including medicines, vitamins, children’s milk, hygiene kits, and processed food. Through this initiative, D-DART UNDIP hopes to strengthen the health resilience and psychosocial well-being of communities in Agam Reg
