Semarang, November 9, 2024 – Two Information and Public Relations students, Naufal Rifat Kurniawan and Annisa Nur Az Zahrah, won second place in the National Essay Competition – Vokasi Juara 2024, hosted by the Vocational School of Diponegoro University.
Vokasi Juara 2024 carried the theme “Youth Contribution to Achieving SDG’s 2030”. The competition, which consisted of essay and poster categories, sought innovative ideas from students to achieve the SDGs through several sub-themes, namely economics; politics; science and technology; and social and culture.
The competition was held in several stages, starting from essay collection on October 14-31, 2024, the announcement of semifinalists on November 3, 2024, online presentations for the 6 finalist teams on November 5, 2024, the announcement of finalists on November 6, 2024, and the final presentation on November 9, 2024, which was held openly at the Vocational School of UNDIP.
Rifat and Annisa were the only finalists to raise the social and cultural sub-theme. They highlighted the traditional art community in Semarang in their essay titled “Pesona Wayang Wong: Optimizing the Promotion of Wayang Orang Art Based on Digital and Community”. They designed this innovative campaign to boost the existence of Wayang Wong. “We see that Wayang Wong is a very legendary art form. Moreover, in Semarang, there is Wayang Wong Ngesti Pandowo, but unfortunately, many young people think that this art form is outdated,” said Rifat.
In line with the theme, the Pesona Wayang Wong innovation also plays a role in realizing the SDGs, namely point 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development) and 11.4 (Protecting World Cultural and Natural Heritage).
