Tears and Prayers of an Ojol Driver Behind Qori Safa’s Cum Laude Graduation

Semarang, September 12, 2025 – Qori Safa Nurzikha, a student of the D4 Information and Public Relations Program at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University, successfully completed her studies with cum laude honors and a GPA of 3.95. Behind this remarkable achievement lies an inspiring story about the struggles of her father, who works as an online motorcycle taxi driver. Qori was one of the graduates at the 179th Undip Graduation Ceremony held on July 28, 2025.

Known affectionately as Riri, she is the eldest of two siblings from a modest family. Her mother passed away in July 2021, just as Riri was starting her studies. Since then, her father has been the sole breadwinner for the family through his job as an online motorcycle taxi driver. Although she applied for the KIP Kuliah program, Riri was not successful in obtaining the assistance.

However, thanks to an adjustment policy at Diponegoro University, Riri received a reduction in her Single Tuition Fee (UKT) and was placed in Group 1. She feels very grateful to be able to study in a major that matches her interests.

“Praise be to God, I am very grateful to be able to study in this department. Not only does it align with my passion, but the professors are also very friendly and disciplined, and my classmates are supportive. Despite my different background, it has actually become a motivation for me to graduate on time. In the future, I want to pursue a master’s degree and even a doctorate with a scholarship, as my dream is to become a professor,” said Riri.

Riri also expressed her appreciation to her final project supervisor, who always motivated her, and to everyone who helped her throughout her studies.

According to Riri, the key to her success lies in recognizing her potential and applying the right learning strategies.

“We must know our initial goals for studying, always remember our initial motivation, study harder according to the material, and most importantly, pray and worship a lot,” she said.

The journey of Qori Safa Nurzikha serves as proof that vocational education is not only focused on mastering professional skills but also on shaping the character, spirit, and perseverance of students in achieving their dreams—even from humble beginnings.
