Semarang: SMOL.id is holding a national-level photo competition with the theme of daily life. Hundreds of pupils and students from various campuses throughout Indonesia attended the competition. Sasongko Tedjo, CEO of SMOL.Id explained, “Initially, this competition was intended for students, but many people asked the committee to allow students also to participate. Finally, the competition was extended, and we allowed students to submit their work.”
“Participants submit their work in the form of files sent via the website provided by the committee. There are many interesting and touching photos of students, mostly about people’s daily lives. The committee had to work hard to choose the best of the best photos; we had to look for photos that had value about everyday human life. “Aside from the photo having to match the theme required by the committee, the photo also has to be technically good,” he added.
It was further stated, “After a long discussion, finally a photo of drying tobacco, created by Devi, an Undip Inhuman Vocational School student, which depicts a man in a wheelchair, lying on a spread of tobacco drying in the sun, was chosen as the first winner in an online photography competition which was attended by hundreds of pupils and students. From various campuses in Indonesia”.
One of the SMOLs.id judges explained, “The criteria for assessing the winning photo must meet several aspects or assessment standards that have been determined, including the suitability of theme, aesthetics, and the photo must be perfect technically. “To win a photo competition is quite easy, including trying to understand the theme, looking for references on the internet, and practicing a lot,” added the judge, who is very experienced as a judge for national-level photo competitions.
