Semarang, June 26, 2025 — The Information and Public Relations Study Program of the Vocational School at Diponegoro University successfully held a Visiting Professor event titled “Shaping Tomorrow: Youth and Global Citizenship in a Connected World” on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 08.00 AM WIB. The event took place online via the Zoom Meeting platform.
This event featured a distinguished speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nik Adzrieman bin Abdul Rahman from Universiti Utara Malaysia, and was moderated by Mohammed Aden Suryana, S.IP., M.A., a lecturer from the Information and Public Relations Study Program. The Visiting Professor session offered insightful perspectives on the crucial role of youth in shaping the global future through digital platforms.

Arifa Rachma Febriyani, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., Head of the Information and Public Relations Study Program, shared, “This year’s theme—‘Shaping Tomorrow: Youth and Global Citizenship in a Connected World’—is timely and urgent. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, we see the significant impact on the roles, responsibilities, and opportunities of young people. Today’s youth are not just digital natives—they are emerging global citizens. They are activists, innovators, and storytellers shaping public narratives, inspiring movements, and influencing global agendas.”
She also emphasized that this event represents a broader opportunity for academic collaboration. Beyond enriching the learning experience, it is expected to pave the way for joint research, student exchanges, and sustainable academic partnerships in the future.
In his presentation, Dr. Nik Adzrieman bin Abdul Rahman highlighted that today’s young generation possesses immense power through social media and the internet. With just a Wi-Fi connection and a simple device, young people can become change agents right from their homes. He noted that a single post can serve as a bridge for thousands of people to join in social action, from climate change issues to educational inequality.
Dr. Nik Adzrieman also showcased real-life examples of young individuals around the world who use digital platforms to advocate for social justice, mental health awareness, and environmental protection.
The event was attended by more than 136 participants, including students and members of the public. The high level of enthusiasm was evident during the lively discussion and Q&A sessions. As a token of appreciation, the organizing committee awarded certificates of participation to all active attendees.
Through this event, participants are expected to be inspired to use their digital skills—whether in writing, design, video production, or social media content creation—as tools to contribute to global social change.
